Abraham Twerski - When Do the Good Things Start?
Loneliness is one of the most unpleasant feelings a person can experience.
Sometimes things beyond our control can result in our being lonesome. Friends move to other cities, acquaintances die, and health problems may limit our mobility. But even when things happen that may bring about loneliness, we do not have to resign ourselves to it. Making new acquaintances may not be easy. We often think that other people are part of a clique and we would be unwelcome intruders. Sometimes our sense of pride gets in our way. We may think that if people really want us as friends, then they should initiate the relationship, and if they don't, we remain alone. Companionship may come easily and develop spontaneously in some stages of life. At other times, it may require effort and its pursuit may be fraught with some disappointments. But unless you are willing to live with the misery of loneliness, you had better take some constructive action. |
