Abraham Twerski - When Do the Good Things Start?
So rather than go through the inconvenience of making changes, we may tell ourselves that our difficulties are due to deep-rooted emotional problems. We convince ourselves that there is no point in making any changes in the way we do things because those changes will not affect the deep emotional conflicts that are the source of our difficulties.
... People who think this way are often those who never seem to finish their psychotherapy. They can't afford to recover, because giving up their defense of having deep-rooted problems would mean they would have to change. |
